Saint Brendan's Well, Tobar Breandáin, Farrihy

Townland: Farrihy (Cooseen or Cuaisín), Kilfearagh
Description of Holy Well and Landscape Setting
The well, now difficult to discern, was located at the top of the tide mark. However few traces of the site remain. The well has no clear designation and would require a local’s knowledge to identify its exact site.
Saint and Feast Day Associated with Holy Well
The well was dedicated to Saint Brendan, who remains a favourite Irish saint. Born in Kerry and buried in Clonfert, Galway, his cult once extended along the west coast almost to Donegal. There are four wells dedicated to Saint Brendan in Clare. These are found at Farrihy, Doolin, Lisdoonvarna and Killard. His feast day is 16th May.
Natural Heritage around the Holy Well
The holy well was located at the edge of the sea. It is one of several wells in this area that are found in ‘littoral’ regions – areas along the shore of a lake or sea.
