Knockaunboy Holy Well, also known as Saint Mochonna's Well, Fairhill

Townland: Fairhill, Feakle
Description of Holy Well and Landscape Setting
This holy well is at the top of a hillock in a meadow. The well is marked by a small collection of low stones. The place where the spring would emerge could at one time be seen, but there was no water present at the time of the research visit.
Saint and Feast Day Associated with Holy Well
There seems to be no visitations at Saint Mochonna’s Well in living memory. Mochonna is an Irish saint most strongly associated with Columcille’s Scottish island of Iona. His feast-day is given as 26th January.
Natural Heritage around the Holy Well
The well is in a green space in the middle of a working meadow. At the time of the research visit the area beside the well had been recently cut for silage. The well is intact and is not disturbed.
Heritage Attractions Nearby
Feakle Village and the fishing lakes of East Clare are within a 15 minute drive of the well site.
