Tobersenan, Tobar Sheanáin, Teernagloghane

Townland: Teernagloghane, Kilmacduane
Description of Holy Well and Landscape Setting
The well is located south-west of Cooraclare Village, a few hundred meters off the R483. It lies in a sloping field behind a two story house, on the far side of the hedge. There is some debate as to which side of the hedge the well was located and the exact location of the well was not clearly determined.
In 1839 the Ordnance Survey inspectors wrote:
‘There is another Holy Well in the Townland of Carhoo, a little to the west of Cooraclare Village, dedicated to Saint Seanan at which Stations continue still to be performed’.
Saint and Feast Day associated with Holy Well
This is one of many holy wells in west Clare dedicated to Saint Senan of Scattery Island or Inis Cathaigh. His feast day is 8th March. Practice at the holy well has long since ceased. An older local spoke of his sister visiting the well with flowers as a youngster.
Natural Heritage around the Holy Well
The well lies in wet marshy ground and there appears to be several springs present in the area.
