The Adopt a Monument scheme was developed by the Heritage Council to encourage communities to become actively involved in the conservation of their local archaeological and cultural heritage sites. The Heritage Council offers expertise, mentoring and support so that local communities can preserve monuments that are unique to their own area and this increases the civic value of these sites.

In 2019, two monuments were adopted through this community scheme in County Clare. The monuments were:

• The Kilmurry Lime Kiln
• The Kilkerrin Battery Fort
