This video looks at fifty maps featuring County Clare from the Sixteenth Century to the present day and was created as a Heritage Week 2021 project.

500 Years in 50 Maps

It is presented in a highly accessible video format, available at the bottom of this page, for all to enjoy from the comfort of their own home.

Take your time to look at your local area – learn how towns grew, villages disappeared, names changed, whilst other stayed the same. Pause often to enjoy the detail in these maps.

This fascinating feature is put together with the assistance of members of Clare’s heritage and historical societies, helping heritage mapping consultant Pat Reid and Clare County Council, to work towards a new digital mapping resource for you and your County.
